Hair Extensions Care – Do You Need To Spend More Time And Money?

After you have spent quite a significant amount of money on having hair extensions attached, then next thing on the agenda is care and maintenance. Hair extension care does not need to be expensive and time-consuming. You merely have to put in a little effort in caring for those well-loved hair extensions just like you would normally care for your own natural hair.

Here are a few tips and tricks to make the most out of your hair extensions.

Wetting

  • Wet your hair extensions using a shower, as this will allow the hair extensions to fall into the direction they were attached thus avoiding the occurrence of tangles.
  • Make sure that you have detangled the hair extension before wetting it.
  • Gradually wet the hair extensions while combing it from the bottom up. This prevents the possibility of additional tangling.
  • Never leave your hair extensions wet. Always dry them thoroughly after washing to avoid tangles.
  • Washing and Conditioning

    • Wash your hair extensions at least every 2-3 days to keep it clean. This is particularly important if you wear them every day.
    • Use a shampoo and conditioner that needs to be applied separately. Never use a 2-in-1 product. Your hairdresser might even have suggested one or two shampoo and conditioner products that would help bring out the best in your hair extensions (Best Hair Extensions).
    • Do not rub in shampoo into the area where the hair extension is attached instead apply the shampoo onto your scalp.
    • Your hair extensions lack natural oils that come from your scalp, which is why you do need to moisturize it with a conditioner. Concentrate more on the tips so that they do not dry out (drying could result to split ends).
    • Rinse well to avoid shampoo and conditioner build-up.
    • Use leave-in conditioners to keep the hair extensions moisturized. Just make sure that you wash them regularly to prevent build-up.

    After shampoo and conditioner maintenance

    • Air-dry your hair extensions. Never rub them dry. If you plan to use a hair dryer, set it on the lowest setting. Too much heat can damage the hair extensions.
    • Use a comb or brush (a paddle brush is highly recommended) that can detangle the hair extensions but do not cause damage to them.

    More hair extensions care

    • If you intend to go swimming with your hair extensions, it is advisable to wear a swimming cap.
    • If you are fond of tanning yourself or doing anything under the sun, it is highly recommended that you cover your hair with whatever is suitable for the occasion to avoid sun damage.
    • Before going to bed, give your hair extensions a couple of brush strokes then either hold them in a ponytail or a single braid.
    • Avoid treating your hair extensions with chemicals as much as possible. They have already had their fair share of chemical treatments.

After reading the list, doesn’t hair extension care remind you of how you should be caring for your natural hair?
