How To Do Your Own Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are the latest craze in the hair fashion industry and are one of the best hair accessories ever made that can greatly enhance the look of any female.

Just like any hair accessory, you have two choices with regards to attaching your hair extensions. You can either go to a professional hairstylist to have them do the attaching for you or you can choose do-it-yourself hair extensions. For all intents and purposes, we shall be concentrating on the latter.

Hair extensions come in a variety of colors, length, texture and style. Choose one that best complements your current hair style.

The next step is to choose the method of attachment or fusion method of hair extensions that you want to use. These include bonding, glue-in or fusion, weaving, braiding and clip-on (or clip-in Extensions). For ease of discussion, we shall provide a general overview on the steps to take when you want to do your own hair extensions.

After you have chosen the hair extension that you like, make sure that you have everything you need at hand for the particular attachment method that you want, for example the hot glue gun for the glue-in method of attachment or a special applicator for bonding. Don’t forget the hair clips and comb (you’ll see why in a little while).

Surround yourself with mirrors so that you can clearly see what you are doing and how it looks at the front and the back. A well-lighted area is also best. You are now ready to begin.

At least one inch from your nape, take your comb or the tip of the hair clip and part your hair horizontally. Leave a little amount of hair at the left and right side so that the attachment will not show after you have finished the entire process. Clip all the hair away from the horizontal line that you have just made.

If you are using wefts of hair extension, you have to cut the desired amount of hair from the weft so that it fits the area you are working on. If this is your first time to attach a hair extension better do it in small amounts to lessen the probability of making a mistake. You do not want to put too much hair extensions that it would end up putting a strain on your natural hair. Pre tipped hair extensions and clip-in real hair extensions do not need to be cut as they are already sold with a particular amount of hair ready to be attached.

You are now ready to attach the hair extensions using the method of your choice. Leave around an inch of space in-between hair extensions. Continue the process until you have reached the crown of your head. Move diagonally from the front of your hair to your ear while remembering that you need to refrain from attaching hair extensions at least an inch at the hairline so that nobody will notice that you are wearing a hair extension.

Remove the hair clips and let everything fall into place. Run a brush or comb through your hair so you can see where you need to add some more.

With a little patience and perseverance, you would have added hair extensions to your own hair with minimum effort.
